BEEEautiful Vegan Leather Shoes on Kickstarter!

There is a gorgeous new Vegan "Leather" shoe collection trying to gain traction on Kickstarter this month and you can help them out!  No One's Skin by Ivana Basilotta uses a grain & seed based "leather" that she developed with the shoe gurus in Italy.  Aren't they spectacular?

I can't wait to see the suede!

The California Mission Ride to Boot

For most of you it's here - finally - BOOT WEATHER!  Can I get an "amen"?  Alas, here in swampy, southern Houston the long-awaited season is still far off, but a girl can pine...

And, on the subject of all things boot, cowboy boot to be precise  - - -

Have you followed the exciting adventure currently en route touring California's storied Missions, The California Mission Ride?  CMR is in it's second year, about to visit the last of 21 missions covering 600 miles - on horseback.  BRAVO!

CMR is led by Hollywood director, Gwyneth Horder-Payton (think Sons of Anarchy, The Shield, Grey's Anatomy, The Doors movie), writer Leslie Dunton-Downer  (The English is Coming), and Rod Rondeaux Crow/Cheyenne Hollywood Actor/Stunt Rider/horseman extraordinaire (Meek's Cutoff, The Lone Ranger, Into the West - below).

Fierce barbed wire shorts and all, Rod Rondeaux is a force to be reckoned with.  It's impossible to gossip about him without mentioning his many bighearted causes both humanitarian and mammalian.  Rod and his wife, Equine Fine Art Photographer, Rachel Waller Rondeaux , operate a horse rescue/stunt ranch in far west Texas called Firelight South Ranch and he's behind The Indian Stunt Ranch.  Mr. Rondeaux also trains underprivileged Indian youth in the art of equine stunt riding with the goal of giving them a marketable as well as culturally significant skill. Last but not least, the Rondeauxs run the non-profit American Indian People for Wild Horses (major hand on heart) dedicated to the preservation of this beleaguered species so special to American history and ecology.

Happy Trails, CMR!  In lieu of riding shotgun, we excitedly await release of the documentary.

Of Latex & Geodes

Wow!  F/W 2013 Couture Season has brought some gorgeous things into the fashion world again and as usual, I loved the Maison Martin Margiela collection.  They struck a cord with my little eco-centric heart by up cycling vintage fabrics, embroidery and dresses, but what really got me were the latex covered shirts, jeans and boots and this:

Thank you, Style.com for the pics
A Geode vest!  How amazing is that?  Not comfortable.  Not quiet.  But very, very cool.
As for the latex - it looks terrific but is totally unwearable down here in uber swampy southern Houston and probably most other climes also.  'T would be akin to one of those icky "sweat suits" from the 70s where you zip yourself in from head to toe to produce a lose-5-pounds-sweat.
Just the sci-fi disco dominatrix boots, maybe?

The Half-Tuck ala Emmanuelle - a How-To

Casual chic isn't going away anytime soon.  Not as long as Emmanuelle Alt reigns at VOGUE Paris.  A friend and I were discussing the how & why of her ubiquitous half-tucked shirt signature.  I appreciate how she brazenly wears the same shirts so many times in true French-girl style. So eco! Truly a uniform.   Find our conclusions below the pics.
posted from Stealthelook.nu
And... quelle horreurr! Ripped!!!  I know Ms. Alt is of the fine vintage whom survived the original Grunge Age, but she's not exactly a Seattle-ite. How does she DO this and not look like she's just come from sleeping in the back of the van?

- a How-To for the Half-Tucked Look  -
(so as not to have your kids show up wearing this!)

www.isyfashion.com

Observation #1 - Body - She's skinny, DAMMIT.  (Unfortunately my current girth does NOT lend itself to this look:-/ )  Having twiggy legs helps too, but that can be handily overruled by point # 2 -

Observation #2 - Shoes & Pants - Emmanuelle always has a great, high quality shoe and very narrow pants to balance the erstwhile slovenly habit.  Heels aid the elongated profile.

Observation #3 - Color - Neutral colors keep it elegant and quiet.  Although - - -  It could be done with a fuchsia or orange shirt/white jean combo for summer, don't you think?

Observation #4 - Accessories - A distinct lack of accessory flash keeps the overall look like "serious fashion" (which I realize, for some, is an oxymoron) vs. a bag lady pile-on.

Observation #5 - Jackets - When the weather dictates, a sleek fitted jacket purposefully anchors the concept.

What do you think; did we overlook anything? Comment below...

Let's all avoid this frumperie!

CHANEL dreams = "Chanelarella"

I clicked through - twice - the Fall/Winter 2013 slideshow for Chanel last night and had patent leather cuissardes* dreams 'til dawn.  Some beautiful jackets, coats and perfect silhouette images kept them company. 'Still glowing. In love, in love, in love.
Of course a good Karlism came with the glorious package, "I've got my feet on the ground, but this collection is up-to-earth, not down-to-earth."

My favorite dress, worn with impeccable grace here by Stella Tennant, is so Barbarella + Chanel it can only be dubbed Chanelarella, don't you agree?  Add a wacky space gun....
Jane in all here splendid glory

*Cuissardes - a fancy French word I've added to my vocab courtesy of Style.com.  It translates to "waders",  although I doubt Karl had anything so odoriferous as fishing attire in mind when he conjured them.
Cuissardes - commit it to memory, we're going to see a lot of them...

Alexander McQueen - but you knew that

I had a no-name pair almost identical to this for years but just was forced to toss them because they sprouted a weird, very audible squeak:-/  I MISS them dearly.  Perhaps these should fill in?  By Burberry
