Upcyling a Jet - Malibu Style and Earth911

It's time to break the silence on the Southern Front.  It's been a busy, kid monopolized summer, but here's something amazing for your enlightenment nevertheless - - -

Have you seen the Wing House in Malibu?  Designed by David Hertz of the Studio of Environmental Architecture in Venice Beach,  it is largely constructed from a dismantled Boeing 747.

Many of the large pieces had to be flown in by helicopter.  Hertz was devoted to upcycling as much of the jet as possible, even making a fire pit on the patio out of parts.  You can read a shortie about the house on my new favorite eco blog -  Earth911 - More Ideas, Less Waste.

Click to watch a video tour of this magnificent house

I wonder how many centuries it will take to save up enough pennies to hire SEA to make a beautiful house & studio for me - - -

No Trickery - It's a TREAT! Punkin' Pie Smoothie

Every fall I get all excited about Pumpkin Pie.  Next to cheesecake, it's my all-time favorite dessert, which I justify consuming by the boatload because it's so chock full of vitamin A which isn't all that easy to get:-}   Not unlike how wine is really just liquid antioxidants and resveratrol, no?

While I can't remember where I got the original recipe (probably Kris Carr ?!), and I can't even remember (thx for nothin', Moms'heimerz) the exact ingredients, here's how I made it and - - - LOOK! - the most delicious punkin' idea in ages - a smoothie.  I'm in HEAVEN.

So here's what you need to whip up this amazing, vitamin rich, Omegas loaded, vegan slurpee:

Punkin' Smoothie
  • 1c. pureed pumpkin
  • 1c. almond, coconut or soy milk
  • 2 T. raw pumpkin seeds
  • 1 T. chia seeds
  • squirt of agave nectar or dash stevia
  •  pumpkin pie spices to taste
  • extra dash of ground cloves
  • nob of fresh, peeled ginger (as much as you can stand)
Blend until smooth in a Vitamix or blender.  Add ice cubes if you want it frosty.  The seeds thicken it up, so you may want to add more milk or water to thin it down - or use a spoon:-)

à votre santé!

footnote - this is how much I love my old 50s linens.  I use them until the holes are too many and the colors so faded you can't even see the designs anymore.  Also shown is an art deco Candlewick water glass I inherited from my  great grandmother, Ruthie.  I am the luckiest girl in the world because she had a generous collection that I've been able to expand over the years.  It's such simple, elegant depression glass from the Imperial Glass Company made during the mid-'30s through the '50s.

HodgePodge-y: Marc Jacobs & 50s Chair

This post makes no sense no matter what angle you approach it from, but I guess that's my day today.
First - LOVE this 1955 Chair by Martin Eisler.  I'm not sure it's very comfortable, but it sure is sleek and groovy

Second - Marc Jacobs and the Pilgrim Shoe thing for Fall - what do we think about that???  I just can't get excited.  I do like the cropped leg with them, and they DO look comfortable compared to the monster platform trend, but... hmmm.  The floral textured vamp ones are fun, but still - on the fence.  Pink?  Maybe.  Will have to try on.

More furniture, Kartell etc. 007? Are you there?

I know everyone's seen these a GAzillion times, but I just love them, don't you!?  Of course I like the silver much better than white.  And I swear I've seen them in Orange somewhere...

While trolling ABC Carpet & Home I also found this beautiful sofa - notice the lovely curved end.  One could entertain Mr. Bond himself on this beauty:-}  Gasp* did I really just write that??

By Hook or by ... Dishes?

This is an amazing pair of art deco celluloid hooks I found at a very crowded, dirty, falling down (really, truly we thought the roof might cave, and there was a toddler running around touching all the breakables - scary adventure!) antique shop recently.  Aren't they to die?

Photographed on my 50s sparkle vinyl chairs that have been re-soldered twice to keep the legs alive and sittin'.

And since we're still on the theme of blue and vintage... here are my beloved 50s plates:
The top are, of course, the ever popular Franciscan Starburst pattern.  I fell in love with these as a kid and finally grabbed some when I lived in Prescott, Arizona, a little cowboy town in paradise.  A huge box of them for $100, which was a complete steal!  I felt guilty walking out with 40 lbs. of Franciscan at such a bargain, even back then, in the 90s.  The other two patterns shall remain nameless because I don't want you to go buying them all up!!!!!  HA!   We collectors are a vicious bunch ain't we?!
