This infographic posted on Ecouterre is precisely why we do what we do, i.e. upcycle unloved t shirts into fabulous new goodies.  Have you seen the new tubes yet?

I am always excited when able to reduce waste of any kind.  We are making mosaics out of plastic container caps at our elementary school right now - awesome.  Southern Houston grocery stores are finally recycling plastic bags - whew.  I'm making necklaces out of frozen juice container caps - chic (hopefully!).
And today I decided to actually measure how little/or how much, depending on your half full/half empty perspective, fabric waste was leftover after cutting 8 t-shirt "T Bags".

This is all that remains of 8 unloved t-shirts that would have otherwise met their demise in a landfill or been shipped (at great environmental cost) to Africa for donation & resale.   Much of this small pile (scissors shown for scale) will be used as pillow and doll stuffing also.  I call that fantastic.

T Bags for the Pets!

I just delivered an order of 22 T Bags to Pasadena Pets & People Alliance, a local Texas pet adoption center, and I'm VERY excited about it!
They plan to re-sell the bags as a fund-raiser at the Pasadena Strawberry Festival this weekend.  How fun is that?  Pics:

Other than tuna, KittyPuss loves nothing better than to commandeer my fresh stacks of fabric, pattern pieces being drafted and, as you can see - sewing on the trusty old Singer.  Every cat I've ever owned has assisted my design projects. They can't resist!  I have to physically move her paws out of the way of the needle sometimes.  Crazy feline.

Announcing CUSTOM order Capelets and T Bags

This fun cape was just custom made for a lovely Colorado client out of her own fascinating shirts collected on her far-reaching world travels.  She sent shirts from Tanzania, Russia, Australia and many others and here is what I made for her!

10-11 shirts are needed and can fit any theme you so desire - your concert t's, marathon race t's, old college shirts from you & hubby, your children's favorites 'outgrowns' that you are hording in the garage....




I am also happy to custom make a bag or three out of your own shirts.  Here is one made for some Texans, and other examples are shown below.  Each one uses two complete shirts and I add beads complimenting the style of the t shirts.  The strap can be short or cross-body and is made from salvaged denim.  A cell/key pocket is inside.
